Urge your elected officials to fund the #PlowTheSidewalks Pilot Program

Advocating for better walking, biking and transit infrastructure.

Better Streets Chicago is a transit advocacy organization made up of Chicagoans looking to the streets to make Chicago more livable, equitable and safe. We believe that providing safe and efficient mobility options to all Chicagoans is within the city’s reach — and we’re here to help make it happen.

How Can We Make Chicago’s Streets Better?

Protecting People on Bikes

Biking in Chicago — whether as a mode of transportation or a way to get exercise and have fun — shouldn’t require putting your life at risk. By adding physical barriers between car and bike lanes, and protecting bike trails, bikes and cars can be physically kept apart — saving lives and encouraging cycling in the city.

Speeding Up Buses

When buses get stuck in traffic, they become slow and undependable. With properly enforced dedicated bus lanes, buses can stay on schedule and get riders where they need to go — without getting caught in traffic caused by automobiles that frequently only transport one or two individuals.

Creating Safe, Fun Spaces for People

Large amounts of space in the city are currently dedicated to cars — from streets to parking lots. By transforming some of these spaces into open streets — those which let pedestrians and people on bikes safely enjoy them, free from the risk of injury or death by automobile — Chicagoans of all ages can better enjoy their neighborhoods.
